Making of the cover

I obviously have a motif running through these covers. An advantage to having a motif is One, there is a rhythm to the covers, it flows, like ballet. Two, I don’t have to think too hard and just get on with drawing some cool action poses. (But why hasn’t August appeared on a cover, why is Mikey front and centre I hear you type. We, give it a minute) I like what I did with James and Hailey, got the old creative juices flowing, and I know have a story just for those two scamps.

OMG! It’s Omar!

Progress.

I’ve written the 4th draft of the script. It coming together nicely. A few more passes at the dialogue, and it should be good to go.

The comic stars, Omar, the geezer doing all the running and jumping in the red bandana in Here Comes the Dragon Punch. He’s on a mission that takes him into a high end Military Compound, that some bright spark stuck in an ancient ruin.

Omar mission is to disrupt proceedings at the Compound. He also has a side mission that takes him into the catacombs of the temple, below the Compound in search of a long lost magical artifact.

So that means I gotta design ancient run down temple, High Military compounds and a monster for Omar to fight in the bowels of Catacombs. And a Witch.

Here are some of my initial ideas for the temple, and its motifs. I’m going to use Triangle and Circles, and I think I’m going to have the ancient society worship Vultures and Buzzards.

For the personal, I’m trying for designs that look retro or quirky, but aren’t practical in anyway. They were bought for the look rather than the aesthetic.

The big monster that Omar faces in the Catacombs. The fight takes place in a lake that has filled in the long forgotten, and broken pillars and stairwells of an ancient vault. I was originally going to use a crocodile esc beastie for the battle, but in doing research for the designs, I came across terrapins, Gods angriest turtle, so I went in more of that approach.

The Bog Witch. These were fun to design.
